I Got Smoked!

Man, Hurricane Erin did a number on me! 🌊

Here in Rhode Island we don’t usually get massive waves and I’m definitely still a beginner out there. But this weekend we caught the tail end of Erin, and while the waters were calming down, the surf was starting to pick up.

I drove down to check it out, and it was firinng, from what I saw online, maybe 2–3ft, but it felt a lot bigger once I paddled out. Stopped by Rhody Surf to rent a board (no room at my place for a 7–9ft soft top), grabbed one, and hit the water.

Getting out through the swells wasn’t too bad at first, but the non-stop waves with no breaks in between had me smoked. At times I was just getting wrecked by the sheer consistency of the sets rolling through. Managed to pop up a few times, but honestly it was a bit too big for me right now.

Still... progress is progress. And hey, there’s always next weekend 🤙
